Isaac Rodriguez Cotrofe
Spanish tuba player Isaac Rodriguez Cotrofe has settled in Amsterdam since 2015. Born to a family of science and literature teachers, he soon showed a great interest in music and at the age of 9 he started his studies with Alfonso Mollá Castells whom together with Mel Culbertson, one of the world’s most renowned tuba players, will be the main inspiration for Isaac throughout his whole career.
Although being a classical musician, Isaac has been always deeply interested in contemporary music and he is always willing to learn and collaborate in many different projects. His main passion is orchestral music and he has been selected several times to take part in different youth orchestras like the EUYO and Schleswig Holstein Orchestral Academy. He also spends a large amount of time exploring the sonic possibilities of the tuba.
Isaac is also deeply interested in literature and philosophy and one of his main passions is cuisine. In 2012 he recorded a couple of pieces for tuba and electronic music in the CD “Chromatike” born from the collaboration between the tuba class and the electroacoustics laboratory of the Conservatorio Superior de Música del Principado de Asturias (CONSMUPA.)
Isaac often collaborates with professional orchestras such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Nederlands Philharmonic Orchestra as well as with professional contemporary ensembles like the INSOMNIO Ensemble and the ASKO Schönberg ensemble. He is currently pursuing his master degree in the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Perry Hoogendijk, tuba of the Royal Concergebouw Orchestra.
